Tips for Spinnow Lures
By Doug Field
|
Used in lift-drop motion, SPINNOW rotates rapidly about the hard axle, or "resonating shaft". Low pitch sounds are emitted from the body plus mid-frequencies from the shaft. These frequencies, plus superior VISUAL action attract and annoy all fish into seeking out SPINNOW and striking it.
SPINNOW JIGGING
- Lower rod-tip to water.
- Lift sharply on rod so tip comes up only about a foot.
- Drop rod at once to give SPINNOW full slack line (slack line is a must).
- Once line is taut, repeat. If you feel anything, strike hard to set hook. Fish just beneath bait-schools or on the deep-water side of them. An alternate method is to lower SPINNOW down through bait-balls or their edges with a bit of tension on the line. If you detect a speed change in descent, set the hook. Once to the bottom of the ball, reel up rapidly and be ready to strike. Repeat until your tired of catching fish! (Tip: use a depth finder to locate bait schools.)
SPINNOW CASTING
- Cast SPINNOW out into surface-feeding fish or to where fish are likely to be.
- Lift rod about 2 ft.
- Drop rod tip back towards lure to make line slack.
- Reel in slack line. Repeat.
SPINNOW TROLLING
Troll fairly fast. You'll see rod start to "pound" when correct speed is reached.
SPINNOW WORKS BEST BY NOT BENDING IT.
Some anglers prefer to remove the hard axle shaft and simply thread their mainline through it.
